Prada
Miuccia Prada played with a simple formula of boxy duster coats, flirty on-the-knee crystal pleat skirts, slim pencil skirts, cocooning Harrington jackets, soft pleated blouses, bandeau tops and waisted full-skirted dresses. This was the 50s-style American dream with unexpected offbeat colour mixes and 50s-style airbrushed hot wheels car motifs that gave the collection its edge.

Alberta Ferretti

With its mermaid-inspired drapery and bold jungle colours, Alberta Ferretti's spring/summer 2012 collection gave an insight into life as a tropical island castaway. The collection was exotic and feminine with appliqué panelling, sheer and lace inserts, ribbon weaving and raw-edged silk detailing.

Albino
Albino D’Amato was inspired by the surrealist painter Max Ernst’s work Thirty-three Little Girls Set out for the White Butterfly Hunt. From here he wanted to create 30 exits that looked different to each other, with the connecting story in the detail, the construction, print and texture of the pieces.

Bottega Veneta
Tomas Maier pushed the envelope with his fabric mixes, playing fluid against structured, matt against shine and textured with smooth, using ultra-matt silks, silk chiffon, cotton organza, leather, coated denim, wool/silk blends, patent and faconne effects. The colour palette was intense and saturated with rich emerald green and sapphire blue, combined with violet, blood red, turquoise, mandarin, chocolate, plaster and black.
toning rivulets of silk chiffon pieced together in a series of beautifully fluid goddess gowns closed the show perfectly.

D&G
There was a viva glam vibe to the collection bringing to mind luxe resort-dressing, with printed kaftan tops and short flippy skirts. Filled with 90s neons of hot pink and orange, turquoise, lime green and canary yellow as well as traditional foulard prints including ropes, paisley, gypsy florals, polka dots, baroque leaf patterns and gold filigree motifs.

Dolce & Gabbana
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana brought a new sense of swing. Picturesque summertime in a small town in southern Italy circa the 1950's was the designers' starting point. From the array of Vegetable motifs including tomatoes, aubergines and chilli peppers to the layered floral lace appliqué, jewelled daisy buttons and beaded fringe hems the collection was an Italian feast for the eyes.

Dsquared²
Dean and Dan Caten got down and dirty for their spring/summer 2012 collection, inspired by the notoriously muddy Glastonbury music festival. The collection riffled on the looks made famous by rock 'n' roll model Kate Moss with denim hotpants, fringed gilets and folkloric embellished waistcoats. I absolutely love the heeled Wellingtons and muddy surface boots.
Bring on the summer festivals!!

Emilio Pucci
Peter Dundas presented us with a Gothic Gypsy for his Spring 2012 Emilio Pucci collection with seductive black lace and maximum use of iconic Pucci print.
Stunning appliqué, intricately embellished lace, embroidered and beaded heart and skull motifs filled the runway. Perhaps one of my favourites of the season, definitely Dundas best work for Pucci to date.
Gothic-style cross pendants on beaded multi-strand chokers, heart pendants, various earrings featuring birds, stars and crosses won my heart.

Less is never more for Karl Largerfeld
This was a collection that was the sum of boxy A-line skirts, trapeze jackets with dropped shoulders, leather blouses, asymmetric tops with shoulder cutouts layered over striped shirt dresses, sheer knits with cable treatments, fur gilets and balloon-hem skirts or dresses made from castellated strips.

Gucci
A tight Deco-inspired palette of black and white, gold and emerald filled the s/s 12 gucci runway. Giannini confirmed last week’s NY trend for the drop-waist dress, the silhouette emphasised by gold banding details at the hip or asymmetric draped panels and flapper-like fringing.
Though Frida Giannini insisted that the Art Deco motifs she showed were pure coincidence and that the architectural shapes, especially the New York skyscrapers of the 1920s period were the inspiration behind the collection.

Designer Paolo Gerani was interested in the connection between "sportswear and sensuality" and as such aimed to unite the two with a collection that mixed sporty pieces with elegant silhouettes.

Jil Sander
It was another stellar collection from Raf Simons, with an opening passage of reworked white shirts epitomising the purity of signature Jil Sander design. The colourful mid-section brought back the neon bright's of his hit S/S 11 show, this time worked into all-over Paisley patterns.

Marni
Proportional layering is a Marni hallmark and for s/s 2012 the key combinations paired A-line dresses as well as co-ordinated tops and skirts over lean organza underskirts.
The opening six looks marked a fresh modernist direction for Marni with flat planes of sugared almond colours. Then came the pattern in signature offbeat combinations such as brown, black and yellow with white.

Lashings of gold sequins and embroidery made the models look like Roman warrior goddesses, bedecked in metallic dresses with cutout yokes and filigree diadems, in silk, printed mousseline, tulle, black lace, embossed suede, leather and coin-like palettes.

Studs and starfish was to be seen at Donatella Versace's spring collection, with leather-trimmed corsetry, plissé chiffon panels, twinkling crystals, thigh-high splits and plunging necklines. There were vivid pales of mint, ice blue, lemon and lilac against optic white, with black all covered with underwater motifs including starfish, shells and a mermaid riding a seahorse.

Versus
Versus offered one of the most literal translations of sportswear yet this season. Christopher Kane and Donatella Versace took inspiration from basketball uniforms and cheerleaders on a colour pallet of iced pales of pink, mint, lemon and blue with graphic black.
