New York fashion week : Day 4

[couture2.jpg]
I love the overall look of a sixties schoolgirl shown at Donna Karans DKNY show. I wasn't a huge fan of her spring collection but this season I'm loving her take on the boyfriend blazer and geometric dresses not to mention those fantastic platforms. I'll be looking forward to it coming to stardoll.com.

"For five seasons we have been doing the same situation," said Alberta Ferretti after the show. "For this, it is important to see the dress."
Alberta Ferretti went back to her style of a boy-girl thing this season, with romantic lace dresses matched with tailored officer's coats and high-starched collars with laser-cut edges and lace insets.

Yohji Yamamoto offered an extraordinarily dark take on love and romance for his Valentines day Y-3 show.

. "For me, it's always about things that are falling off, splitting apart, and being put back together," I love this concept Victoria Bartlett has, and it works so well with creating stunning garments that have a relaxed earthy feel to them.

Victoria Beckham has really proven she has the talent to become a successful fashion designer, She has a very distinct style of cut that works so well on the womens body, it actually reminds me of Roland Mourets design skills.
As has become Beckham's style over the last three seasons, she narrated as the models glided out in her dresses, discussing fabrics, color, cut, and construction.

Thakoon Panichgul brought a new slightly sinister style to his work this season with somber grays and blacks through goldenrod to ivory. I love to see him explore new territory and as always create something so beautiful.

"I wanted to do something that's a continuation of our basic look, but done in a new way," Rebecca Taylor said backstage.

From the black velvet cocoon coat to the beautifully draped chiffon dresses in abstracted zebra motifs, Catherine Malandrino's Fall collection gave us a stunning mix of textures and cuts, and although each piece is very different she still manages to combine them as one.
She said she was thinking about our communal ancestors and our modern nomadic life.

Playing with contrasts, both with textures and tailoring curved seams, for example, on linear shapes Raul Melgoza continued to pursue his architectural agenda.

Lubov and Max Azria turned to athletic inspirations for their Hervé Léger fall collection.
We realized that if you wear Hervé Léger, you have to be in shape," explained Lubov backstage after the show. "You know, you lace up tennis shoes, so we started to lace up bodices and then moved on to ergonomics." "I think it's more exciting, because you have the parameters," said Lubov. "You have to create more and more. It's a challenge, but we love it." And so do we.

I really love the dresses inset with mesh panels and sharp cuts.
Is it just me thought or is much of this collection very similar to the last fall's Phi collection.

"My muse this season is Nico," Erin Fetherston explained a few days before her show. "And she always wore pantsuits." She continued, "I wondered, if she did wear dresses, what would they look like?" "I could make party dresses forever, but it's good to push yourself to try new things,"

"I always wanted to live a man's life in a woman's body." is a quote used by Diane von Furstenberg although this is one of the first times she has explored men's suiting for women, I really like her take on this with the rose embellished blazer and crop suit pants. As always her collection was full of beautiful textures and rich colours.

Betsey Johnson was back on the runway this season and did not disappoint with her performance skills. I really love seeing her shows, full of life and energy always nice change during fashion week. Her inspiration for this collection came from 45 years' worth of her own archives and ended up in the Wild Wild West.
"I'm working on my stuff, being very true-blue Betsey," she said.
Kelly Osbourne opened the show with, plastic gunes in each hand (very much a Bestey Johnson signiture) and exuberantly tore off the bandanna covering her face.
