ASDA £16 dress inspired by Balmain £6000 dress

£6000 Balmain vrs £16 Asda
I'm really not sure what to make of this, I really love this Balmain dress from the Fall 09 collection and the asda version is actually very nice and for only £16 I'll probably purchase it, but are high street knock off's starting to go to far ??

A spokesperson for the supermarket ASDA said today: 'The British made limited edition dress is stocked in our bigger stores across the UK and we are seeing plenty of women who are keen to replicate the Balmain look seen on Kate Moss. Women have been queuing this morning with sales very strong, some stores selling out within two hours of them being available.' For those who are unable to get to the store, the dress goes on sale on the Asda website tomorrow morning. Fiona Lambert, George brand director, added: 'At a time of recession when people are finding it hard, we are seeing that people are looking back to the 80s when fashion was fun, loud and over the top. The supermarket is hoping the limited edition dress will be this year's best-seller.

but I wonder what Balmain designer Christophe Decarninhave has to say about this ?

Yes they are going tooo far. It's okay to make something inspired, but some recent looks from Lipsy and Topshop are identical to designer clothes, but they lack in quality. And what's worse? People buy it anyway!
I understand that we are in recession but is it really necessary to go that far?
How would you feel as a designer if it happenned to you?
